The Atlanta Fire Rescue Department (AFRD) Public Affairs Department is seeking a Website and Digital Content Creator who has excellent communication skills, a keen eye for aesthetics, and is passionate about public service to produce and curate high quality and high-volume graphic, written and video content for AFRD. The Website and Digital Content Creator will create engaging content, including but not limited to illustrations, infographics, and video, for a range of mediums including print, digital, web, and social media outlets. With a background rooted in website development, the ideal candidate will be experienced in a wide range of digital areas, including website architecture, requirements writing, Search Engine Optimization (SEO), analytics, and Content Management System (CMS) development.

The Website and Digital Content Creator will understand the AFRD brand and will develop complementary graphics, video, and social media content, highlighting the impact of the department and engaging with new audiences digitally. They will work closely with members of the fire department, other city departments, and partner organizations to ensure consistency in messaging that supports AFRD’s strategic goals through print, digital, web, and social media outlets. This person will play a pivotal role in executing and refining AFRD’s credibility by ensuring consistency in voice and brand. The employee will also monitor/engage in AFRD-related social media conversations/inquiries and track social media performance analytics, while staying abreast of the latest industry trends.

Supervision Received

Under general supervision, the employee is required to exercise reasonable initiative and independent judgment in performing work assignments.

The successful candidate will also understand the inter-connectedness of communications and is adept at using multiple channels and innovative approaches to engage key stakeholders to provide information and essential context in real-time as circumstances require.

This position is directly supervised by the Multimedia and Digital Manager who reports to the Communications Director. Must be able to work well, both independently, as well as collaboratively with a team.

Responsibilities

  • Create engaging content for all content calendars – from social posts to email blasts, video content, newsletter and podcast, introductions to long form articles – ensuring that messaging is aligned with the AFRD brand and strategic vision
  • Brainstorm and strategize communications initiatives based on AFRD’s priorities, initiatives, and programs
  • Package and manage editorial and content calendars for multiple initiatives across platforms
  • Designs, implements, and iterates on Webflow-based webpages (homepage, landing pages, etc.)
  • Ensures implementations follow web standards, accessibility, and usability best practices
  • Manages the customer experience to ensure visitors can navigate the website with ease
  • Facilitates the design, build, and maintenance of an internal communication platform/application
  • Manages all aspects of the website and internal platform, including software, inventory flow, and quality management
  • Collaborates with department units and vendors to determine the requirements to enhance website and application features
  • Community engagement: respond to relevant comments/replies, and mentions across social platforms to promote audience interaction
  • Analytics and measurement: monitor social media analytics and share insights with the executive team
  • Interface with multi-media teams across city departments to coordinate citywide initiatives and set tone messaging

  • Proven graphic design experience with a strong portfolio of graphics or illustrations
  • Proven website development experience with a strong emphasis on brand building
  • Proficient in graphic design and video production programs including Adobe Photoshop CC, InDesign CC, Illustrator CC, and Premiere Pro CC
  • Excellent time-management skills to handle a variety of assignments simultaneously under a variety of deadlines and other constraints
  • Pays great attention to detail, has a keen eye for aesthetics, and quality
  • Ability to develop, maintain, and promote positive and professional relationships with vendors and contractors to achieve departmental and organizational goals
  • Ability to work with multiple website and application technologies
  • Ability work with Power BI to create dashboards and reports
  • Experience with HTML, CSS and content management systems (CMS)
  • Good understanding of Relational Databases (SQL, Oracle)
  • Intermediate level skill in use of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Familiarity with Content Management Systems, such as Microsoft SharePoint or similar products
  • Participates in the creative process, listens, and executes the departments needs and idea
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and can relate to people at all levels of the organization
  • Proven experience with social media platforms, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok.
  • Proven experience leveraging social media management and analytics tools, with platforms such as Meltwater, Hootsuite, and/or Sprout Social
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

Preferred Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, design, marketing, journalism, or related field and a minimum of two years of experience as a social media coordinator, graphic designer, and/or related position
  • Some knowledge of photographic techniques and Granicus website development
