KVH is seeking an experienced marketing professional to serve as the marketing manager for KVH’s commercial maritime (Americas) and global leisure marine products and services (mobile connectivity, content, and television). This position requires experience with high-technology products and services ideally along with the ability to think strategically and work tactically to deliver results in awareness, qualified leads, and sales.
The Marketing Manager will build collaborative relationships with customers, partners, and thought leaders in the industry to understand the competitive landscape, help drive company’s objectives, and position the KVH to win within each sector. Key responsibilities include extensive writing (collateral materials, case studies and white papers, etc.), competitive marketing and positioning research, marketing campaign development and implementation, collaboration on lead generation initiatives, tradeshow planning and attendance, and marketing budget management. The Marketing Manager will also be expected to establish and maintain strong collaborative relationships with the commercial Americas and global leisure sales teams.
Responsibilities
Marketing Management & Strategy
- Drive penetration of new markets and enhancement of existing channels/sales partners globally through strategic planning, competitive analysis, product & service development and launch, key selling points relative to competition & their pricing, campaign development, collateral, email campaigns, promotions, trade shows, and social media. Work closely with the Vice President, Marketing & Communications, on overall marketing plans and ongoing campaigns, ensuring close working synergy with the US-based marketing and design team.
- Serve as the liaison to the commercial and leisure marine sales teams through regular participation in Sales meetings and planning, leading quarterly sales/marketing discussions, and proposing and developing leisure marine marketing campaigns, events, etc., based on feedback and insights from the sales team and outside representatives.
- Conduct market and competitive research; maintaining an up-to-date assessment of competitive positioning, products, and price points for marketing and sales reference; providing recommendations on opportunities for differentiation within KVH’s competitive positioning.
- Lead voice of customer inputs, including informal and formal market research with partners and end customers on new products & services and overall competitive insight.
- Coordinate on shared initiatives with marketing resources in Europe and Asia.
Content and Campaign Development
- Serve as the marketing lead for KVH’s commercial maritime connectivity and content services. Serve as project lead for selected global commercial and leisure maritime product & services launches, working collaboratively across all functional marketing teams.
- Identify, plan, and manage demand generation and awareness marketing campaigns, including strategic goals, positioning and messaging, concept development, and campaign goal setting and performance metrics.
- Integrate content development, social media, direct outreach to prospects, advertising, speaking opportunities, public relations, sales lead management, events, and other elements as appropriate into mobile connectivity campaigns and in coordination with appropriate members of the marketing and sales teams.
- Develop creative briefs and key messaging for mobile connectivity product and service launch initiatives based on voice of customer insights, competitive differentiators, and industry requirements.
- Write market, product, and thought leadership content, including brochures, datasheets, blog entries, customer stories and case studies, etc.
- Build industry knowledge and relationships sufficient to advise and drive the company on key sponsorships, thought-leadership opportunities, and interaction with commercial and leisure maritime press.
- Serve as social media backup and post while onsite at events, trade shows, etc.
Trade Show Support
- Serve as the point of contact (with Art Director) for all US trade shows.
- Manage show planning and contracts along with all required paperwork, insurance, and other services.
- Manage invoices and payments for trade shows and related vendors (shipping, fixtures, etc.). Maintain the trade show tracking records for US shows.
- Travel to, and staff as necessary tradeshows, boat shows, customer outreach events, customer and manufacturer on-site visits, and marine trade events.
Marketing Administration
- Review OPEX reports for accuracy monthly or bi-monthly), maintain the marketing forecast spreadsheet (every 2-3 months), and oversee marketing invoices for corporate, commercial Americas, and global leisure marketing
Qualifications
- Must be able to understand high-tech products and services with the ability to assimilate and articulate that information into easily understood and compelling copy
- Outstanding writing skills a requirement
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, English, Journalism, Communications, or related area
- 5+ years practical marketing and product management experience; experience in the maritime industry and/or high-technology products and services preferred.
