The Digital Marketing Specialist, Social Media, at the Oregon State University Foundation creates experiences, tells stories, and builds communities that inspire alumni and friends to support OSU. Reporting to the Senior Director of Communications Strategy, this role involves planning and executing digital marketing strategies to engage alumni and friends, and steward and cultivate donors.

 

Work Location

  • Based in Corvallis, Oregon, at the OSU Foundation office.

Core Work Days

  • Hybrid approach: In-office on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Option to work remotely on Monday and Friday.

Key Partners

  • Members of the Marketing and Communications team, including graphic designers, writers, event planners, and other digital marketing specialists.

  • Members of the Foundation’s annual giving and alumni engagement teams.

  • Members of the Foundation’s Information Technology and Advancement Services teams.

The Digital Marketing Specialist will contribute to the Marketing and Communications team’s vision by ensuring:

  • Timely and accurate delivery of emails, social media posts, and web updates.

  • Increased customization and segmentation of digital content.

  • Enhanced digital strategies based on data analytics and insights.

  • Improved conversion and engagement rates of email and social campaigns, and ongoing improvement of web user experience.

Major Duties

  • Plan, manage, and execute integrated social media campaigns (paid and organic), develop relevant content topics, and monitor, listen, and respond to stakeholders.

  • Develop and execute email marketing strategies, working closely with clients to develop, build, and send emails, leveraging new tools, processes, and best practices.

  • Manage the social editorial calendar across all platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter).

  • Participate in kickoff meetings for projects, campaigns, and events to understand messaging, make recommendations, and create a comprehensive digital marketing strategy.

  • Communicate the OSU brand voice effectively across all digital platforms.

  • Track and assess data and analytics for digital marketing to provide recommendations on future projects, events, and campaigns.

  • Use marketing automation software and other tools to deliver timely and relevant content to key audiences across email, web, and social media.

  • Build digital marketing assets, coordinate distribution lists, and schedule and release messages, web updates, and posts.

  • Collaborate with Foundation leaders to ensure digital strategies align with organizational priorities.

  • Monitor trends and technologies to identify emerging opportunities in digital marketing and respond to changes in external properties, such as social media and search algorithms.

  • Collaborate with the messaging team to build and maintain a web style guide for consistent and on-brand web updates.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Comprehensive knowledge of social media platforms, messaging strategies (including paid advertising), digital marketing strategies, AP style, and strong verbal/written communication.

  • Proven skills in content marketing, data collection and analytics, social media monitoring, SEO, keyword research, and Google Analytics.

  • Experience in editorial calendaring for social media, email marketing, and web.

  • Attention to detail in incorporating feedback and maintaining version control over documents.

  • Ability to handle interpersonal relationships maturely, thoughtfully, and empathetically, including working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

  • Ability to use digital technologies to achieve marketing goals, including experience with Web content management systems (Sitefinity, Drupal, WordPress, iModules), social media planning and management tools, and broadcast email tools.

  • Ability to use data analytics and key project metrics to evaluate digital marketing effectiveness and recommend strategy adjustments.

  • Ability to master new technologies (email marketing platform, alumni/donor database, etc.), develop strong vendor relationships, and independently pursue ongoing skill development.

  • Ability to work across departments to develop and drive campaigns for targeted audience engagement and action.

  • Ability to manage and meet multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment, managing and prioritizing a high volume of work.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and two years of related experience in marketing. Education and experience equivalencies will be considered.
