Sophia is an industry-leading provider of low-cost, self-paced online general education courses that are transferable for college credit. The leadership of this team is responsible for the growth and marketability of the platform and its offerings.

We are searching for a detail-oriented Email Marketing Manager to lead the strategy, development, and execution all of Sophia’s email marketing efforts. The ideal candidate will be agile and have a passion for data, metrics, reporting, problem solving, and email. This person should create email campaigns and systems that facilitate scalability, predictability, and efficiency of marketing automation.

This candidate will work cross-functionally across the marketing, creative, product, engineering, and analytics teams to drive marketing results and achieve business objectives leveraging the email channel. They will partner closely with the Email Coordinator to execute the strategies they are responsible for developing, including the development of a robust testing roadmap.

The right person for this role is someone who thrives on problem-solving, leveraging data to build strategies, and has a deep understanding of email best practices and strategies.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Responsible for email marketing program strategy, development and execution, including segmentation, testing, and deployment, and continually evaluate these for improvements.
  • Distribute email build, QA, and deployment workload between themselves and the Email Coordinator
  • Draft creative briefs and work with internal creative team to generate creative for email campaigns
  • Develop strong email vendor relationship
  • Build, QA, schedule and deploy email campaigns and flows as required
  • Regularly analyze campaign KPIs, track results, gauge success, and report findings for internal and external stakeholders. Leverage analytics to continuously suggest new ideas and optimizations.
  • Develop testing roadmap and work with analytics partners to continually improve our email marketing initiatives.
  • Leveraging customer segmentation and key data point insights to personalize communications with our customers based on known needs and pain points.
  • Manage marketing automation efforts and processes, proactively researching and implementing the latest best practices, strategies, and industry standards
  • Provide email best practices and standards updates to our internal partners (creative, product, engineering, etc)
  • Act as daily lead during any potential ESP and CRM vendor evaluations and transitions (as required)

Job Skills

  • Knowledge of email best practices – subject lines, layout, targeting, deliverability and CAN-SPAM laws
  • Data-driven thinking and an affinity for numbers
  • Proven success in building email programs that are scalable and efficient.
  • Proficiency with list management/CRM databases
  • Basic understanding of HTML/CSS and deep understanding of customer journey orchestration technologies.
  • Passion for data and focus on business KPIs, to effectively prioritize projects based on potential business impact.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, as this role is highly collaborative in nature across the organization including copywriters, designers, analysts, product managers, sales, IT engineers, and more.
  • Strong organizational skills to support juggling multiple projects in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Experience with A/B or multivariate testing in emails.

Work Experience

  • 4-6 years of experience in executing email campaigns, including (but not limited to) campaign & creative ideation, building the email and email lists, providing QA before launch, and building the send lists using specific criteria
  • 2+ years of outlining annual and quarterly strategies for email channel, as well as detailed tactical plans
  • 3+ years of experience with other large list management platforms with automated customer journey capabilities (Hubspot or Salesforce Marketing Cloud preferred)
  • Experience in email marketing for e-learning or subscription-based products is preferred but not required.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required

  • Must be able to work more than 40 hours per week when business needs warrant.
  • Access information using a computer.
  • Effectively communicate, both up and down the management chain. Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
  • Travel via plane, car, and metro may be required to perform this job.

  • Strong mental acuity.
