The Communications Manager/Writer will be responsible for the implementation of a digital-first marketing communications strategy, project and vendor management, as well as development of new digital strategies and enhanced utilization of metrics and analytics as capabilities evolve. A significant role of the position is to support clinics and services in addressing their communication needs and coordinating these with the overall strategy.
Characteristic Duties – Responsibilities
- Creates strategic and compelling content that adds value to multi-channel marketing communication plans, including articles written in a brand-journalism style, MSU Community/public focused web site content, promotional and advertising materials, video scripting/concepting, email and other digital communications, social media posts, infographics, etc.
- Reviews, edits, and maintains fresh, actionable content on website, adhering to ever-changing digital and SEO best practices
- Plans and coordinates content placement in multi-channel platforms, including directly posting to websites, social media channels, etc.
- Assists in implementation of brand identity, including monitoring of all partnership brand usage and partnership “voice”
- Partners with administrative and clinical leaders to assist them in achieving their content goals
- Utilizes advanced automation, efficiencies, and data driven decision-making to reduce work and increase value for the clinicians we serve
- Assists with managing projects with external vendors
- Helps drive engagement through coordinated events, promotions, and recognition
- Coordinates internal communications channels, such as monthly newsletter, Intranet site content and other tactics as needed
- Acts as the primary liaison for assigned clinics developing the relationship and serves as the subject matter expert for assigned services within the marketing and communications department
- Leverages owned, shared, and paid channels to drive supportive actions that benefit and grow MSU Health Care
- Utilizes metrics, analytics, and research to better connect communications with our audiences
- Helps manage the creation of assets (photos, videos, graphics, etc.)
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Journalism, Telecommunications, or Public Relations; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in public and media relations, composing, editing and publication production, news, broadcasting, and print media, and/or marketing, advertising, and creative services; graphic design; word processing; desktop publishing; web design; presentation; spreadsheet and/or database software; public presentation; or radio production; or computer programming/technology; experience managing content for social media channels; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
- At least five (5) years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience with significant plan creation, implementation and analytics
- Content development
- Significant skills or understanding in internal and external communications, video production, social media, and marketing communications analytics
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with individuals and groups in a diverse environment
- Superior oral, written and digital communication skills, especially related to storytelling with a focus on advanced science and technology
- Ability to manage complex projects and meet multiple deadlines
- Detailed knowledge of a wide range of digital communications strategies and tools
