The Opportunity

Seyfarth Shaw LLP is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Public Relations Coordinator to join our Marketing & Communications team. This is a unique opportunity to help shape and amplify the voice of a leading global law firm. As PR Coordinator, you will play a key role in assisting the PR team in developing and executing an effective external communications program, drafting press materials, managing PR campaigns, and enhancing the firm’s reputation across key markets. You will be a member of the firm’s Marketing and Practice Development (MPD) department, report directly to the firm’s Senior Manager of Media Relations, and collaborate with internal stakeholders and external media to tell compelling stories, both externally and internally, that reflect our values, expertise, and impact.

The Day-To-Day

On Any Given Day, You Will

  • Assist the Senior Manager of Media Relations with identifying and executing thought leadership campaigns to establish firm lawyers as insightful subject-matter authorities with editors, reporters and producers.
  • Draft and edit press releases, media pitches, awards submissions, briefing materials, internal and external announcements, and website posts, ensuring consistency with the firm’s brand and editorial guidelines.
  • Write, post and tag content to the website using a content management system (RubyLaw).
  • Produce daily and weekly media mention and attorney publication notices for firm leadership, the website and other communications channels.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders.
  • Coordinate media opportunities, including the placement of stories, articles, and press releases for the firm, its lawyers, and management.
  • Develop and maintain editorial calendars for external media opportunities, including awards.
  • Manage media database, especially media lists for press outreach.
  • Monitor, analyze and share press coverage internally, both firmwide and for the individual practice areas, including media metrics where applicable.
  • Plan/manage PR activities during firm and industry events, and research best practices to provide strategic insight into new initiatives..
  • Assist, when needed, the Social Media Manager with the firm’s social media accounts
  • Collaborate across teams to ensure consistent messaging and brand alignment.

You Have

  • Excellent writing, editing, and oral communication skills.
  • Familiarity with a professional services firm’s operations.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities with tight deadlines.
  • Solid understanding of the news media and journalists, especially within in a legal industry context, including priority outlets and best practices.
  • Experience with press outreach.
  • Collaborate in a team environment consisting of attorneys, other professionals and administrative support.
  • A proactive mindset and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with content management systems (RubyLaw), social media tools (Hootsuite), design (Canva), and media monitoring and analytical tools (MuckRack), preferred.
  • Highly competent with Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Experience in Smartsheet preferred.
  • At least 2 years of relevant communications or PR experience in a professional services or agency environment.
  • Undergraduate degree in communications, public relations, journalism, English or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Chicago: The full time salary range for this role is $60,000-$66,000 annually, which is based on a 40 hour work week.

Ney York: The full time salary range for this role is $70,000-$75,000 annually, which is based on a 40 hour work week.

This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role in the locations listed above at the time of this posting. An employee’s pay within the salary range will be based on numerous factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, geographical location and business or organizational needs. This job is also eligible for an annual merit increase and bonus pay.
