Spotting an opportunity is one thing, but acting on it makes all the difference.
Seth Godin had a small box with items that reminded him of his past.
Back in 1991 and 1992, he had access to the internet, but the World Wide Web didn’t exist yet.
He had an idea to share this with the public and planned to write a book about the internet.
He received $60,000 from the publishing company and hired five people to help. He even created a t-shirt for Salesforce with the book’s title on it to promote it.
However, the book only sold 1,848 copies and was a failure.
During that same period, David and Jerry didn’t write a book they built a company called Yahoo.
Seth Godin “At one point, my hypothetical half of that could have been worth $80 billion. And me? I got a T-shirt.”
He even said he doesn’t keep his box out of regret, but as a reminder that spotting an opportunity is one thing, and acting on it is what truly makes the difference.
