You can’t prompt your way to becoming an expert

AI really helps people who already know what they are doing. But for others, it has created the illusion that you can prompt your way to expertise.

Real expertise comes from understanding the deep underlying mechanisms, which we learn through countless errors, tinkering, mastering fundamentals, and waiting days, months, or even years to grasp complex concepts.

Despite the hardship, we may only get somewhat close, and the goal keeps moving, pushing us to learn more.

It’s the same with marketing. Even though we can make money from it, evolving customer preferences, new technologies, emerging business models, and shifting distribution channels keep pushing us to adapt and change.

The marketing mindset we used in the TV ad era can’t be applied to the Google era and that same mindset won’t work in the AI era, which is fundamentally disrupting many industries.

You can’t prompt your way to understanding everything at once.  In some areas, you need to move slowly and build deep knowledge, while in others, you must act quickly because that’s how you’ll truly matter to your customers by keeping up the pace.
