Technical SEO Checklist: Optimizing Modern Web Apps for Google Search

By Editorial Team•Mar 5, 2026

Why Technical SEO Is More Critical Than Ever

Search engines reward speed, accessibility, and structured data clarity. A modern web app built on frameworks like Next.js must adhere to rigorous technical guidelines to maximize crawl budget and secure Google Rich Results.

1. Core Web Vitals (CWV)

  • Largest Contentful Paint (LCP): Keep hero image assets optimized with modern formats (WebP, AVIF) and preload high-priority banners. Target under 2.5 seconds.
  • Interaction to Next Paint (INP): Eliminate long tasks and excessive JavaScript main-thread blocking.
  • Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS): Reserve layout dimensions for all media and banners to avoid visual jumping.

2. Structured Data (JSON-LD)

Schema markup bridges the semantic gap between raw HTML and Google's knowledge graph.

  • Implement `BlogPosting` or `Article` schema on editorial content.
  • Implement `JobPosting` schema with accurate salary, employment type, and validThrough attributes on listings.
  • Validate your JSON-LD syntax regularly with the Google Rich Results test.

3. Canonical Architecture & Sitemap Freshness

  • Enforce strict self-referential canonical URLs across all pages to prevent duplicate indexation.
  • Automate sitemap pinging via Google Indexing API and IndexNow (Bing, Yandex) upon publication or deletion.
